Journal Scope

The Journal of Strategic Competition is an open access, peer-reviewed publication dedicated to advancing the academic and practical understanding of global strategic competition. The journal explores the dynamics, implications, and strategies of competition across multiple domains.

As defined by U.S. Joint Doctrine Note 1-22, “Strategic competitions generally consist of complex interactions over cultural, economic, geographic, political, or ideological rivalries, often played out over decades.” While this concept provides a foundational understanding, it remains a new and evolving framework that requires further development. We invite submissions that explore this definition in depth, as well as papers addressing strategic competition activities that may not fit neatly within this framework. We especially welcome perspectives outside the U.S. context, ensuring that diverse viewpoints enrich the study of strategic competition on a global scale.

The journal areas of focus include, but are not limited to:

  1. Diplomatic Competition: Examination of statecraft, international relations, and the use of soft power and diplomacy to achieve strategic objectives.

  2. Information Warfare and Influence: Studies on intelligence, propaganda, disinformation, information operations, and cyberspace operations, including their role in shaping global perceptions, policies, and outcomes.

  3. Military Competition: Analysis of military strategies, security force structures, operational tactics, and defense technologies, as well as the strategic postures of nation-states and non-state actors in conflicts and crises.

  4. Economic Competition: Investigation of economic statecraft, sanctions, trade policy, and the role of financial institutions and resources in shaping geopolitical power dynamics.

Interdisciplinary Approach:

We welcome submissions from diverse fields, including international relations, political science, economics, military studies, science/technology, law, sociology, anthropology, and others to foster a holistic understanding of strategic competition.
